The only goal by Swedish international, Fridolina Rolfo during the course of the match was the only thing Wolfsburg needed to advance into the finals of the competition.

Super Falcons captain Asisat Oshoala and her Barcelona side’s poor clinical finish in front of goal costed them a place in the next stage.

Despite trumping Spanish rivals Atletico Madrid 1 – nil in the Quarter’s of the 2019/20 Women’s UEFA Champions League at San Mames Stadium in Bilbao last Friday, they failed to build on the momentum as they threaded the paths of their male team to also crash out in the Semi Finals.

Wolfsburg were champions in 2013 & 2014 and finishing runners-up in 2016 & 2018 with Barcelona Femini finishing second last year.

Glorious chances were wasted by  Oshoala & Caroline Graham Hansen and definitely haunted them as they could not make progress in the competition.

As it stands Wolfsburg now have a perfect one hundred-percent record over Barcelona, as they advanced to the Finals and would face the winners between French rivals Lyon and Paris Saint Germain on Wednesday night.

“It feels amazing, we’re really happy with the result and to have made it to the final. We were talking at half-time about the need to keep calm, keep the ball, not get too stressed and try to score a goal,”
“It says a lot about the club that everybody wants to win and has a strong winning mentality, even if we didn’t play our best today.” Fridolina Rolfo told BT Sport after the game.

Barcelona coach on the other end had something to say in defense of herself and her players.

“We are not at the level of Europe’s big teams, we are above it.” Lluís Cortés spoke to BT Sport.
